Entry from: Bulgan Province, Mongolia Entry Title: "Silence " Entry: "So there we were: the Mongolian countryside. We got off the bus in a town that looked straight out off a western movie, like the shop fronts were made of cardboard and nothing behind them. The people in our bus disappeared into one of the sets for food, and we sat around outside, until I went to look for a banana for Jon, as he hadn't had anything to eat for a day. The town was dusty, stray dogs were lounging about in the shade, and the sun beat down on us. I was wearing my boots, ready for the roughest terrain, and walked through, the people looking at me with no interest at all. The shops contained very little merchandise, no fresh fruits apart from a few wrinkled apples. Of course, the Mongolians do not eat fresh fruit or veg, they're herders, so they eat dairy and meat products. A fact that became apparent very soon. There was a small fire on the other side of the road, and an old Nomad, on sitting on his small horse like a sack of potatoes was disappearing down a road going over the hills. There was an air of relaxation around, people lounging outside the stores, though not many people could be seen around. We got back on the bus, and it was just about ready to pull off, when a woman knocked on the window. We looked at each ...
